Best College for Criminal Justice in California

These Are Some Killer Schools in The Golden State!

California has 145 schools that offer a criminal justice degree or certificate. It’s a bit difficult to make a pros and cons list for 145 different schools. But don’t fret, my little law-abiding citizens, we’re here to help narrow down your options with some of the best colleges for criminal justice in California.

What Is A Criminal Justice Degree?

There’s a pretty big difference between a criminal justice degree and a law degree. Criminal justice is the study of the justice system, including the police, courts, and corrections, and those who work within it. A law degree allows you to practice law (a.k.a. be a lawyer). A law degree also requires you to apply to and attend law school, which is an entirely different degree (a J.D. or Juris Doctor).

A criminal justice degree allows you to pursue pretty much any other field that’s law adjacent, including:

  • Police Officer/Corrections Officer
  • Private Investigator
  • Security Specialist
  • Forensic Scientist/Crime Scene Investigator (CSI)
  • Forensic Analyst
  • Court Clerk
  • Criminologist
  • Criminal Profiler

If any of these career paths call out to you, then a criminal justice degree is a great way to pursue them!

Why Should You Pursue It?

Criminal justice is all about making a meaningful impact on your community. It’s so much more than parading around with a gun and a badge or putting away the bad guys in a pair of cool aviators. This career is for those who truly care about the community and want to give back by protecting them. If you want to help those around you by enforcing the law and protecting civilians, then this career could be the perfect path for you.
